Dr. Richard E. Meetz graduated from the IU School of Optometry in 1976 and has been giving back to the School for over 41 years. Dr. Meetz was a Clinical Professor and served as Associate Dean for Fiscal Affairs. He directed the School's clinical program growth, course standardization, and clinical curriculum modernization. From 1976 to 1994, he was the director of Screening and Evaluative Services, directing the school's statewide mobile clinics program and providing eye care to thousands of children annually across Indiana. Further, Dr. Meetz served as a lecturer at the IU School of Medicine-Bloomington and School of Education and as an adjunct professor for the Ramkhamhaeng University's optometry program in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dr. Meetz was named the Indiana Optometric Association's inaugural Optometric Educator of the Year. He was the 2016 recipient of the IU School of Optometry's Foley House Basement Key Award and has received several additional teaching awards, including the 2010 American Academy of Optometry's Michael G. Harris Award for Excellence in Optometric Education.
