Dr. Charles R. Schick (Doc) was a 1947 graduate of New Bethlehem (PA) High School. He completed his bachelors degree from Indiana University/Purdue University Fort Wayne and ultimately his Doctorate of Optometry from Indiana University in 1958.
During WWII he served in Panama as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Schick spent nearly three decades in private practice. He held full professor rank at IU School of Optometry from 1958 thru 1993. He was clinic director in 1971 and also served as director of continuing education finally as professor emeritus.
Always civic minded, Schick was as President of the Sycamore Valley Gun Club for over four decades. He was a firearms instructor for the Boy Scouts and 4-H, firearms counselor and lifetime member of the NRA, and was a senior marksman. He received a lifetime achievement award from the Rocky Mountains Elk Foundation. He was a 67 year member and past President of the Trout Run Hunting and Fishing Club of Williamsport, PA. He founded the Sycamore Valley Conservation and Education Foundation and served as its president until his death.
