Marla Doehring was born and raised in Nashville, TN. She graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1992 with a B.A. in History and completed her medical education at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1996. She graduated from the residency in emergency medicine at Indiana University in 1999. After graduation from residency, she moved to Augusta, GA while her husband served in the U.S. Army. She took her first EM job at the Medical College of Georgia where she was part of the emergency medicine faculty. In August 2003 she returned to join the faculty here at IU. She enjoys living in Indianapolis, despite the cold winters, and has discovered that it is a great city for families.
She is married to Topper Doehring, a family physician, and they have 2 children. Outside of work, she loves being a mom and wife. Thankfully, both EM departments where she has worked have been supportive of her desire to spend time at home and have allowed her to work half-time. She is active in her church and likes to spend her free time traveling, jogging, watching various sporting events, and volunteering in the Indianapolis community.
