- Kate Hevner Mueller Outstanding Senior Award - 2019
Clarissa Ren, of Bloomington, Indiana, will graduate from Indiana University in 2019 with a degree in Biology. She was one of 21 seniors to receive the Kate Hevner Mueller Award in 2019. While at IU, she has been involved in: the Demas Lab, which focuses on the general area of ecological physiology; MEDLIFE (Medicine, Education, and Development for Low Income Families Everywhere); and the Hutton Honors Council Association.
She is the 2018 recipient of the Rex Grossman Scholarship from the IU Department of Biology, and also received a Hutton Honors College Research Grant. Her senior honors thesis investigates how photoperiod modulates gut microbiome and behavior in Siberian hamsters. Her research, "Sexual Dimorphism in the Gut Microbiome," was published in the fourth volume of The Indiana University Journal of Undergraduate Research.
