Matthew Bernstein received an undergraduate degree from Columbia University, and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He also studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Bernstein collaborates with Indiana University’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, as a member of its dean’s advisory council.
Bernstein is a partner at DLA Piper in Washington D.C. where he focuses his practice on developing and directing government affairs strategies in complex policy matters. He works closely with the company’s international attorneys and government affairs professionals on both international law and public policy matters. Prior experience includes leadership roles in the United States Senate, as a legislative assistant to Senator Howard Metzenbaum, and in the United States House of Representatives as a professional staff member of the House Banking Committee.
In 2019, Bernstein was awarded Indiana University’s Bicentennial Medal, in recognition of his dedication and service to the university.
