Alexander Rabinowitch is an American historian, as well as a Professor Emeritus of History at Indiana University Bloomington. Professor Rabinowitch received his B.A. from Knox College in 1956 and continued on to earn his M.A. from the University of Chicago in 1961, and then a Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1965. Rabinowitch’s areas of expertise lie in Russian History up to the year 1917, the Russian Revolutions, Soviet-American relations, and the Soviet Union during World War II.
Alongside is career as a Professor of History at I.U., Rabinowitch has also written several books. His best-known book, The Bolsheviks Come to Power: The Revolution of 1917 in Petrograd, was published in the Soviet Union. It was only the second history text, written by a western author, to be published there. In 2007, Rabinowitch released, The Bolsheviks in Power: The First Year of Soviet Rule in Petrograd, which attempts to explain the transformation of the Bolshevik party during their first year rule.
