Dave O'Guinn completed his undergraduate degree at DePauw University, a Master in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Indiana University, and a J.D. from Notre Dame. While earning his master’s degree at IU, O’Guinn worked at both the Indiana Memorial Union and the IU Career Development Center. O’Guinn held director roles at Centre College in Kentucky and the University of Notre Dame before returning to IU as an associate general counsel from 2007-2018, becoming chief litigation counsel in 2014. He then served as the vice provost for student affairs and dean of students from 2018-2023.
As vice provost, O’Guinn’s leadership helped to spearhead new and expanded Student Affairs departments, including the Student Involvement and Leadership Center, the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life, the Center for Veteran and Military Students, and the Collegiate Recovery Community. He also oversaw significant enhancements in the Indiana Memorial Union, including the creation of dedicated spaces for major student organizations, and improved dining and event spaces.
In acknowledgment of his years of service to IUB through his work for Indiana University, his successful efforts to support and advocate for students through the expansion and enhanced care of academic programs, Dave O’Guinn was presented with an IU Bloomington Chancellor and Provost Medallion in 2020.
