- Titled Professor - 2021
- Vincent H. Gattone II Professor of Anatomy & Cell Biology
Alexander G. Robling earned his B.A. in anthropology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in 1992, his M.A. in anthropology from George Washington University in 1995, and his Ph.D. in biological anthropology from the university of Missouri-Colombia in 1998. At the Indiana University School of Medicine (ISUM), Robling serves as a professor and chairperson of the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology, and Physiology. In 2021, he earned the additional honorary title of Vincent H. Gattone II Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology.
The Robling laboratory focuses on anabolic pathways for bone tissue, including the discovery of the molecular mechanisms by which bone tissue senses mechanical loading. Dr. Robling studies how proteins involved in the Wnt signaling cascade affect bone accumulation, and how signal transduction originating from mechanical stimulation is altered by this pathway.
Throughout his professional career, Robling has earned a variety of awards, including the IU Trustee’s Teaching Award, IUPUI’s Research Frontiers Trailblazer Award, and the ASBMR Fuller Albright Award. He is also an IUSM Showalter Scholar and a member of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research.
