About Samir Gupta

Dr. Samir Gupta earned his B.S. from Pennsylvania State University in 1992. Upon graduating, he continued his education at the University of Pittsburg where he earned his M.D. in 1996. He completed his residency and fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) in 2000. Later, he completed his M.S. at IU. Gupta is a professor of medicine and a vice chair for research for the Department of Medicine at IUSM.

Gupta is also an attending physician at the Eskenazi Hospital HIV outpatient clinic and is an active investigator in the general field of HIV therapeutics and complications. He is funded by the National Institutes of Health to research the effects of HIV and its therapies on cardiovascular diseases. His research primarily focuses on HIV-related renal, cardiovascular, bone, and metabolic diseases; HIV-related mental health; and HIV therapeutics and pharmacology.

Gupta is a member of several prestigious professional organizations, including the HIV Medical Association and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. In 2021, he earned the additional, honorary title of David H. Jacobs Professor of Infectious Diseases. Additionally, in 2022, he was appointed to the governing board of directors of the Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis.
