Christie M. Orschell earned her B.S. and Ph.D. from Indiana University (IU) in 1986 and 1992, respectively. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the IU School of Medicine (IUSM) within the Department of Medicine in the Hematology/Oncology Division. Orschell began her teaching career at IUSM in 1987 as a graduate assistant. She has since held numerous titles and positions within IUSM, including senior research professor and professor of medicine. In 2020, she was awarded the additional, honorary title of Robert Wallace Miller Professor of Oncology.
Orschell’s research focuses on the acute and delayed effects of radiation exposure on the hematopoietic system and hematopoietic stem cell biology. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications related to these topics and more that have been published in notable journals. Beyond the classroom, Orschell has consulted for several pharmaceutical and therapeutic companies, some of which include Berlex/Bayer, Novelos Inc., and HemaQuest Inc. She also serves as a medical technologist at IUSM.
Throughout her career in research and academia, Orschell has been recognized with a variety of awards and honors. For example, she earned the IUPUI Graduate Fellowship Award and the IUSM Fee Scholarship, both in 1987.
