About Young-Jin Kim

Young-Jin Kim is Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Handok Pharmaceuticals, one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Korea. Kim has been in the pharmaceutical industry for more than 27 years.

Kim joined Handok in 1984 and worked for two years at Handok's joint partner in Frankfurt, Germany, Hoechst AG. In 1996, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer and President of Handok Pharmaceuticals and was named country manager of Korea by HMR, the pharmaceutical division of Hoechst. In 1998, Hoechst AG commissioned him as country manager not only for pharmaceutical business, but also for all other business activities in Korea. His contribution to the international business of Hoechst AG continued from 2000 to 2004 as a country manager of Aventis Pharma.

Kim served as Vice Chairman of the Korea Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association from 1999 to 2007 and has been a director of the Korea Management Association (KMA) since 1998. He also has been Chair of the Board of The Center on Philanthropy at The Beautiful Foundation since 2008. Kim has been very active in the Korea Chapter of the Indiana University Alumni Association since 1986 and became its President in January 2010.

Kim received the CEO of the Year Award from KMA in 2004. He was recognized by the Korean government with the Order of Industrial Service Merit for his contribution to the best labor relationship in 2005, and he received the Ethic Management Award from the Health Industry CEO Summit in 2008. In addition, Kim received the Accounting Transparency Award from the Korea Accounting Association in 2009. In 2010, he won 'Management Transparency Award' jointly awarded by five main business organizations of the country, including the Federation of Korean Industries and Korea International Trade Association.

Kim earned a bachelor's degree in business from Yonsei University (Seoul, Korea) in 1979 and an MBA degree from the Kelley School of Business in 1984. He attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University in 1996. He has been a member of the IU Foundation's International Committee since its inception. The IU Kelley School of Business inducted Kim into its Academy of Alumni Fellows in March 2010.

In 2020, Young-Jin Kim was presented the Bicentennial Medal for his distinguished service to Indiana University.
