IU Indianapolis Spirit of Philanthropy Award - 2021

About Mary Jane Compton

Together, Mary Jane and Bob Compton were longtime financial supporters of Indiana University and avid football and basketball fans. We lost Bob in 2018 but Mary Jane continues their legacy of financially supporting IU and cheering on her Indiana Hoosiers. Bob and Mary Jane were successful business owners and active citizens in Terre Haute prior to selling their business and moving to Bloomington. Both are graduates of Indiana University, Bob from the Kelley School of Business and Mary Jane from the School of Nursing. Their support of the university includes establishing endowed, named scholarships at both of their alma maters in addition to supporting the scholarship created by Mary Jane’s class of 1961 in honor of their 50th class reunion, the Emily Holmquist/Dorcas Rock Brewer Nursing Scholarship. IU and IUPUI are truly thankful for the philanthropic spirit of Mary Jane Compton.
