- IU Indianapolis Spirit of Philanthropy Award - 2021
Bart and Amy Peterson have a long relationship with helping others, IU, and the O’Neill School. In 2019, Mayor Peterson was presented with a 50th Anniversary Chancellor’s Medallion for his significant contributions to the City of Indianapolis, IUPUI, and higher education more broadly, and for the role he has played in the 50 years of impact IUPUI has had on a local, national, and global scale. Bart has served on the O’Neill School Dean’s Council since 2015 and previously has chaired the IU School of Medicine Center for Global Health Development Board. Bart and Amy established the Peterson Fellows Program in 2016. Mayor Peterson’s goal is to offer current graduate students an opportunity to work in partnership with the City of Indianapolis’ Mayor’s Office on one or more projects that address a specific challenge while supporting the City’s strategic plan and vision. The fellowship includes a rotation in other city departments and opportunities to meet and work with the city leaders and groups. Former fellows have gone onto leadership roles in both public and nonprofit sectors. We are honored to recognize the many contributions of Bart and Amy Peterson.
