Dr. Andrea Shin earned her B.A. and M.D. from Indiana University (IU) in 2004 and 2008, respectively. She completed her residency in internal medicine at IU in 2011. Upon completing her residency, she continued her education and training at the Mayo Clinic where she earned her M.S. and completed a fellowship in clinical and translational science in 2013. She is an assistant professor at IU in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She earned the additional title of Philip J. Snodgrass Scholar in Gastroenterology and Liver Disorders in 2021.
As a clinical gastroenterologist at IU, Shin trains undergraduate students, medical students, residents, and fellows. She specializes in the care of patients with DGBI and gastrointestinal motility disorders. She is committed to providing individualized care that emphasizes the multidimensional nature of DGBI and motility disorders. Her research focus relates to her clinical expertise and focuses on developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to treating disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), functional diarrhea, chronic diarrhea, and anorectal disorders.
Throughout her robust teaching, researching, and practicing career, Shin has received several accolades, including the William Osler Award from IU in both 2006 and 2015, and was recognized as a member of IU’s Phi Eta Sigma honor society in 2015. Shin is also a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), and the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society (ANMS).
