Rohan Dharmakumar earned his B.S.C. in physiology and physics and M.S.C. in mathematics from the University of Toronto in 1996 and 1997, respectively. Upon graduating, he continued his education at the University of Toronto, earning his Ph.D. in medical biophysics in 2004. He completed his postdoctoral training in cardiovascular MRI at the University of Toronto and later at Northwestern University.
He began his professional career at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) in 2021 when he was initially appointed as a professor, the director of cardiovascular imaging research at the Indiana Institute for Biomedical Imaging Sciences, the director of the Krannert Cardiovascular Research Center, and the associate director of research at the IU Cardiovascular Institue. He was also given the additional, honorary title of Charles Fisch Professor of Cardiology.
Prior to joining the IU faculty, Dharmakumar served as the associate director of the Biomedical Imaging Research Institute and a professor of medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. A translational imaging scientist, Dharmakumar is known across the globe for his groundbreaking research spanning several topics, including engineering, medicine, and the physical and biological sciences.
