Dr. Sophia Wang earned her A.B. from Harvard College in 2000, and she went on to earn her M.D. from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2007. She joined the Indiana University (IU) faculty in 2015 as an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry in the School of Medicine.
Wang’s research interests focus on interventions to prevent cognitive and functional decline in older adults. She is specifically interested in the relationship between acute medical events, such as surgery or hospitalization, and cognitive or functional decline in older adults. Her research is critical to discovering measures to prevent or slow the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
Throughout her professional career, Wang has authored numerous papers on the effects of aging on older adults. She has also received numerous awards and honors, including the American Psychiatric Association’s 2018 Hartford-Jeste Award for Future Leaders in Geriatric Psychiatry and the 2018 Beeson Travel Award. She is also the Wesley P. Martin Scholar in Alzheimer’s Education.
