Dr. Aki Puryear earned his B.S. in biomedical/medical engineering and his M.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 1992 and 1996, respectively. He went on to earn his Master of Health Administration and M.S. from Saint Louis University in 2020 and 2022, respectively. He joined the Indiana University (IU) Health faculty in 2022 as the George J. Garceau Professor of Pediatric Orthopaedics and Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery.
Prior to joining the IU faculty, Puryear spent 18 years teaching at Saint Louis University. He started as an associate professor and pediatric orthopaedic surgeon specializing in spine and limb deformities in 2004. In 2021, he was appointed to Vice Chair of Orthopaedic Operations and a full professor. Puryear specializes in orthopaedic surgery.
St. Louis Magazine recognized Puryear as a “Best Doctors” for 12 consecutive years.
