IU Indianapolis Spirit of Philanthropy Award - 2022

About The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis, Inc.

Serving Indiana’s most vulnerable citizens is core to the Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis’ mission. In June 2020, the staff and board of the foundation committed to five action steps in a direct response to systemic racism. The first and guiding action was the promise to hear the needs of the community with the understanding that racial inequity threatens public health. Upon hearing the needs and identifying a solution through thorough research, the Health Foundation pledged $500,000 to create two scholarships for people of color seeking advanced degrees in health. The scholarships, one for a student of color pursuing an advanced nursing degree and one for a master’s in social work, aim to enhance public health outcomes by providing patients with more care providers who look like them.
