Professor Lu (Lucy) Yan is John & Esther Reese Professor and Associate Professor in the Operations and Decision Technologies department at the Kelley School of Business. She joined the Indiana University (IU) Kelley School of Business faculty in 2012 after receiving her Ph.D. in Business Administration from the Foster School of Business, University of Washington. Before receiving the honorary title of John & Esther Reese Professor, she was appointed a Grant Thornton Scholar within the Kelley School of Business from 2019 to 2023.
Professor Yan’s research interests include social media in healthcare, social and economic networks, patient-centric healthcare models, and social media in humanitarian operations. Professor Yan is an accomplished empirical researcher. Her recent focuses are on the IT artifact design for healthcare interventions and deliveries, as well as IT implementation strategies for disaster relief operations. Currently, she serves as Associate Editor at the Journal of Information Systems Research and Senior Editor at the Journal of Production and Operations Management. Her work has appeared in top-tier academic journals, including Management Science, Information Systems Research, Production and Operations Management, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Management Information Systems, and INFORMS Journal on Computing. Professor Yan has received multiple best paper or runner-up awards as well as career awards, including the Young Researcher Award and Sandy Slaughter Early Career Award.
