IU Indianapolis Spirit of Philanthropy Award - 2023

Always committed to improving the communities they serve and leading by example, Indianapolis-based law firm Lewis Wagner established an endowed scholarship to honor the professional excellence, leadership, and community service of their partner, Robert F. Wagner, during IUPUI’s Impact Campaign. In 2017, the firm made an additional commitment to the scholarship. Awarded to students with experience in the law school’s Trial Advocacy or Moot Court Competitions, special consideration is given to students from underrepresented populations. As one of the first racially integrated law firms in Indianapolis, diversity and inclusion are among the firm’s founding principles and integral to their culture. Staff, lawyers, paralegals, and administrators at the firm regularly contribute to the scholarship—75 donors have made gifts—and more than 14 law students have received more than $40,000 in scholarships from the Robert F. Wagner Trial Advocacy-Diversity Scholarship. It is a permanent legacy to the firm and Mr. Wagner. Mr. Wagner completed his law degree at what is now the IU McKinney School of Law. He is a highly respected trial lawyer, having tried more than 100 jury cases throughout the United States. He is regularly named one of “The Best Lawyers in America,” along with 17 of his colleagues at the firm who earned the honor in 2023.
