The Judd Leighton Foundation was founded in 2000 as an independent, private grantmaking foundation based in South Bend, Indiana. It was established to continue the vision of its founder, Judd Leighton, to improve the quality of life of St. Joseph County residents through strategic investments in healthcare, education, and economic development.
The foundation primarily provides grants to tax-exempt organizations that address community problems or needs, with a preference for capital projects that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability. For instance, some of the past grant recipients include Bethel University, the Beacon Resource Center, and the Michiana Public Broadcasting Organization (WNIT). It is, without a doubt, clear that the Judd Leighton Foundation has had a positive impact on the South Bend community and will continue to do so in the years to come.
In acknowledgment of the outstanding work they do for the Indiana community and the thousands of lives they impacted through their educational programs and scholarships; the Judd Leighton Foundation was presented with an Indiana University South Bend Chancellor and Provost Medallion in 2014.
