Dr. Ware is the Joe C. Christian Chair and Professor of the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics and Professor of Pediatrics. She is the director of the Cardiovascular Genetics, Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research, Indiana University School of Medicine. She received her BS from Butler University, Indianapolis, IN. She earned her MD and PhD degrees at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati OH where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Ware completed her pediatric residency and clinical genetics fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. Dr. Ware directs the Indiana University Health – Indiana University School of Medicine participation in the NORD Rare Disease Centers of Excellence Network, co-directed the Genomic Medicine pillar for the Precision Health Initiative, and leads the Diagnostic Center of Excellence site of the NIH Undiagnosed Diseases Network. She is a charter member of the IUH-IUSM genomic medicine council.
Dr. Ware has a longstanding track record of independent funding from the NIH and multiple foundations for basic and translational research. She has published over 140 peer-reviewed articles and authored or co-authored 19 book chapters and over 235 abstracts.
Dr. Ware’s research interests include the genetic and developmental basis of disorders of cardiac structure and function. Her research laboratory has made significant contributions in the areas of congenital heart defects and cardiomyopathy using animal models and performing patient-oriented research.
She serves as the chair of the American Heart Association cardiac development study section and has served on multiple NIH study sections. She was the elected genetics representative of the Society of Pediatric Research and is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
