Dr. Meena S. Madhur received her B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering and Biology from Duke University and her MD and PhD degrees from the University of Virginia. She completed her training in Internal Medicine at Duke University and her Cardiology fellowship at Emory University.
She then joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Divisions of Clinical Pharmacology and Cardiovascular Medicine in 2012 with a joint appointment in the Department of Molecular Physiology & Biophysics. In 2020, she was promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure at Vanderbilt. In 2023, she was recruited to Indiana University to serve as the Division Chief of Clinical Pharmacology. She is the John B. Hickam Scholar in Medicine at IU with adjuncts appointments in the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology, and Physiology and the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. She is a practicing cardiologist and sees patients on the inpatient cardiology consult service at IU Methodist Hospital.
Madhur is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and a Fellow of the American Heart Association (AHA) and American College of Cardiology. Her research lab is focused on the interplay between the immune system and hypertension, including renal, vascular, and cardiac complications of hypertension. Madhur has received highly prestigious grants including the AHA Established Investigator Award, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, an AHA Collaborative Sciences Award, the Gilead Cardiovascular Scholars Award, an NIH DP2 New Innovator Award, and NIH R01 funding. She has held national leadership roles within the AHA and American Physiological Society. Madhur has received numerous honors and awards including the ASCI Young Physician-Scientist Award, AHA Hypertension Council Harry Goldblatt New Investigator Award, and the International Society of Hypertension Mid-Career Award for Women Researchers. She served as Associate Editor of Cardiovascular Research (2018-2022), Social Media Editor of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC): Basic to Translational Science (2016-2022), and is currently a Guest Editor of Hypertension and Associate Editor of Clinical Science.
