Dr. Mohammad I. Merhi is a Professor of Decision Sciences and has been the Coordinator of Graduate Programs and Assessment/Associate Dean at the Judd Leighton School of Business and Economics at IU South Bend (IUSB) for the past two years. Previously, he held the position of Department Chair for four years. Before joining IUSB, Dr. Merhi gained valuable experience as an instructor, research assistant, and assistant instructor in the Department of Computer Information Systems and Quantitative Methods at both the University of Texas Pan-American and Emporia State University. He also has industry experience, having worked as an assistant manager and systems analyst at Amwaj Lebanon Company in Lebanon.
At IUSB, Dr. Merhi teaches a diverse range of courses in Management Information Systems (MIS) and Data Analytics, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has taught core courses for business majors, as well as specialized 400-level MIS and analytics courses, and currently teaches two MBA-level data analytics courses. Since joining IUSB, Dr. Merhi has taught 15 distinct courses—10 undergraduate and 5 graduate. He has designed and introduced a graduate course (Systems Design and Implementation) and two undergraduate courses (Information Systems Security and Business Analytics & Data Modeling), all of which were offered for the first time at IUSB. Additionally, Dr. Merhi co-created a minor in Business Analytics and is currently working on developing a concentration in Business Analytics for the MBA program.
A committed educator, Dr. Merhi is an active member of the Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching (FACET). His dedication to teaching has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the IUSB Distinguished Teaching Award (2023), Excellence in Online Teaching Award (2020), and Excellence in Teaching with Technology Award (2019). He has also received the Educator of the Year Award (2018), the Trustee Teaching Award (2017, 2020, 2023), and the Teaching Excellence Award from the Leighton School of Business and Economics every year from 2015 to 2024.
In research, Dr. Merhi has published 35 peer-reviewed journal articles in leading journals, including the International Journal of Production Research, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Information Management, Information Systems Frontiers, Computers in Human Behavior, Journal of Global Information Management, and Computers & Education. He has presented his research at prominent conferences, such as the International Conference on Information Systems, the Americas Conference on Information Systems, and the Decision Sciences Institute. His research achievements were recognized with the IUSB Distinguished Research Award (2023).
Dr. Merhi has also made significant contributions to the academic community through his roles as Conference Co-Chair, Program Co-Chair, Track Chair, and Mini-Track Chair at several prestigious international and national conferences. He has served as editor-in-chief, editorial board member, and reviewer for several well-regarded journals, and has been an editor for special issues.
