Elaine Roth is a professor of film studies in the Department of English and co-director of general education at IU South Bend. She received a B.A. in English from Bryn Mawr College in 1990, a M.A. in English from the University of Virginia in 1994, and a Ph.D. in American Literature and Film Studies from the University of Oregon in 1999. She joined IU South Bend’s faculty as an assistant professor of English in 2001. Roth was promoted to associate professor in 2007, full professor in 2015, and also served as chair of the Department of English. Prior to IU, she taught at St. Lawrence University, the University of Oregon, and the University of Virginia. Roth’s research interests focus around U.S. cinema, film genres, experimental film, and cultural studies.
In 2010, Roth received a Fulbright Senior Lecturing Award to lecture at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Madrid, Spain from February to July of 2011. She is also the recipient of two IU South Bend Trustees’ Teaching Awards in 2005 and 2013 and was admitted into the Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching (FACET) in 2006.
