Janet Sorensen was a faculty member in the English department in the College of Arts and Sciences at IU Bloomington. She was appointed as an assistant professor of English in 1994 having previously served as a lecturer in the department. She served as an assistant professor until 2001 when she was promoted to the title of associate professor. In 2008, Sorensen left IU for the University of California, Berkley where she currently serves as an associate professor in the Berkeley English Department. Her specialties include 18th-century British. Sorensen has published extensively on 18th century topics including her book, The Grammar of Empire in Eighteenth-Century British Writing (Cambridge, 2000).
