John McRae served on the faculty of the Department of Religious Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at IU Bloomington. He joined IU’s faculty as an associate professor of religious studies in 1996 and also served as an adjunct associate professor of East Asian languages and cultures during his time at IU. McRae received a Fulbright Research fellowship to research the religious significance of the Zhang Shengwen Scroll at National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan during the 1998-1999 academic year. In 2004, he was promoted to full professor and in 2005, he left IU.
