Lois Wise is a professor emeritus in the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IU Bloomington. She earned a B.A. in Social Science from William Paterson College in New Jersey in 1970, a M.S. in Political Science from Indiana State University in 1974, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Indiana University in 1982. Wise joined IU’s faculty in 1982 as a lecturer in the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs and was reappointed as an assistant professor in 1983, a title she held until 1991. She was promoted to associate professor in 1991 and full professor in 1997. From 2008 to 2012, she also served as director of West European Studies and as director of the European Union Center. Wise served as adjunct professor of political science at IU Bloomington as well as a visiting professor at a number of U.S. and Swedish universities including University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, Göteborgs University, University of Örebro, and Umeå University. Her research interests include organizational reform, employment policies, work motivation, and the effects of heterogeneity on organizational performance. Wise retired from IU in 2013 with the title of professor emeritus.
In 1992, Wise received a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar award to research at Orebro University College in Orebro, Sweden. She was also the recipient of the Jubilee Prize for International Scholarship from the Swedish Institute in 2005 and of the Trustees Teaching Award from Indiana University in 2006. Wise has served as a member of the editorial board of the Public Management Review since 2002 and also served as a member of the editorial boards of the American Review of Public Administration, Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Public Administration Review, Public Management Review, Public Organizations, and Review of Public Personnel Administration.
