- Andrew and Peggy Thomson Professor of Hematology Oncology
Dr. Jian-Ting Zhang received his B.S. degree in Biochemistry from Nanjing (Nanking) University, China, in 1983 and Ph.D. degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from State University of New York at Buffalo in 1989. He was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, in 1993 following a postdoctoral training with Dr. Victor Ling at Ontario Cancer Institute/University of Toronto. Dr. Zhang joined Indiana University School of Medicine as an Associate Professor in 1998, promoted to Professor in 2003, and appointed as the Andrew and Peggy Thomson Chair in Hematology/Oncology in 2007. Dr. Zhang is also a co-leader of the Experimental and Developmental Therapeutics Program at the IU Simon Cancer Center.
Dr. Zhang was a recipient of CUSBEA student fellowship (1984), postdoctoral fellowship from the National Cancer Institute of Canada (1990-1993), Career Investigator Award from American Lung Association (1998-2001), Eminent Scholar of IU School of Medicine (1998), and Michael K. Guest Award from Walther Cancer Institute (2005). Dr. Zhang serves as a member of the editorial advisory panel for Molecular Membrane Biology and an editorial board member of Cancer Research on Prevention and Treatment. He has also served on various national and international scientific review panels including NIH and DOD study sections. Dr. Zhang research interests span from cancer biology to drug discovery. Specifically, his laboratory studies (1) the tumorigenesis role of translation initiation factors, (2) mechanism of resistance in cancer chemotherapy, (3) use of genomics and proteomics for target identification, and (4) targeting signaling molecules for discovery of cancer therapeutic and chemo-sensitizing drugs using computation-based drug design.
