About David W. Dunn

Dr. Dunn received a B.A. from Tulane University in 1969 (sociology) and a M.D. from Tulane in 1973. He was an intern and resident in pediatrics at Charity Hospital New Orleans and the Tulane Hospital. He was a neurology resident at Tulane and a child neurology fellow at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He subsequently did residencies in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry at Indiana University.

Dr. Dunn has been involved in education of medical students and residents. He is currently director of the child and adolescent psychiatry residency and the combined pediatric, psychiatry, and child and adolescent psychiatry residency at Indiana University. He has received teaching awards from Tulane University and Indiana University.

Dr. Dunn previously has been director of child neurology sections at Tulane and Indiana and now is the director of the Riley Hospital Outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic and the co-director of the ADHD and Disruptive Behavior Disorders Clinic. He is a member of the professional advisory boards of the Epilepsy Foundation of America and the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance.

Dr. Dunn is an expert in neuropsychiatry. His main area of research is the behavioral and cognitive aspects of childhood epilepsy. He has a particular interest in attention and epilepsy. He also has been involved in research on psychopharmacology of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and disruptive behavior disorders. He is a participant in research assessing the impact of violent video games on children. He was awarded the Arthur B. Richter Professor of Child Psychiatry in 2005.
