About Thomas A. Brush

Dr. Brush received a B.A. from Potsdam College of the State University of New York in 1986 (mathematics), an M.S. from Potsdam College in 1988 (educational technology) and a Ph.D. in 1995 from Indiana University (special education and instructional systems technology). He joined the IU faculty in Instructional Systems Technology in 2002 after serving as a faculty member at Auburn University from 1995-1998 and Arizona State University from 1998-2002.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Brush has focused his research and development in areas that he believes will have a positive impact on K-12 education. This focus has evolved into two distinct research areas for which he is well recognized by his peers. The first area has dealt with methods for using technology to scaffold and support inquiry practices in secondary education settings - particularly focusing on social studies and history. The second area has dealt with the most effective methods for preparing future teachers to improve K-12 teaching and learning through the use of technology.

Over the years, Dr. Brush has received numerous awards for his research and service. These have included the Presidential Award and the Young Scholar Award from the Association for Educational Communications and Technology, and the Award for Excellence in Mentoring Graduate Students from the IU School of Education.
