About J. William Hicks

Professor Hicks received a B.A. in history from the University of Notre Dame, 1962, a M.A. in history from New York University, 1968, and Juris Doctor with Distinction, 1965, from the University of Michigan School of Law. Before coming to IU in 1977, he was Professor of Law, Syracuse University College of Law and served as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, from 1971-1973.

His areas of practice include general corporate and securities with special emphasis on corporate mergers and acquisitions, financing through the sale of securities under the Securities Act of 1933, and registration and reporting compliance under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.

Professor Hicks is a member of the New York Bar, 1966; American Bar Association; Chairman, Advisory Committee to Indiana Securities Commissioner, 1989-present; arbitrator for Indiana Securities Commission, 1993; and has served as lecturer, ALI-ABA, 1987-1993; Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum, 1986, 1988, 1992; BRC Bar Review in Bloomington (Corporations) 1978-1983; and Practicing Law Institute, 1971.

He has published various articles and books including Exempted Transactions Under the Securities Act of 1993, five volume treatise published by Clark Boardman Callaghan, New York, New York, in its securities law series (1979, revised ed. 1993); Limited Offering Exemptions: Regulation D, (1992, revised ed. 1993); Resales of Restricted Securities (1989, revised ed. 1993); and Civil Liabilities: Enforcement and Litigation Under the 1933 Act, two volume treatise in Clark Boardman securities law series, (1989, revised ed. 1993).
