About Anna M. McDaniel

Dr. McDaniel received her PhD from Indiana University School of Nursing in 1991 and completed post-doctoral training in medical informatics from the Regenstrief Institute. She has been on faculty at the School of Nursing since 1992 and was a founding faculty member of the School of Informatics on the IUPUI campus.

Dr. McDaniel is an expert in consumer health informatics and an international leader in the field of nursing informatics. Dr. McDaniel’s research has been characterized by the innovative use of information technology to enhance decision-making by clinicians and to promote positive health care behaviors. Her research focuses on cancer control, from prevention (tobacco prevention and cessation) through survivorship (symptom management). She is nationally recognized for pioneering the use of video gaming technologies for health promotion among youth. She has received numerous awards in recognition of her achievements in teaching and research, including Outstanding Nursing Informatics Researcher from the largest nursing research society in the US.

Dr. McDaniel serves as the Assistant Dean for Research at the School of Nursing. She was inducted as a fellow of the prestigious American Academy of Nursing in 2004. She is an Affiliated Scientist at the Regenstrief Institute and a member of Indiana University’s Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching.
