Dr. Richard L. Schreiner is the Edwin L. Gresham Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at IU School of Medicine. He joined the faculty of the IU School of Medicine in 1975 and has held numerous positions of leadership throughout the next 30 years including Director of the Section of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, Director of the Section of General Pediatrics, Chief of Pediatrics at Wishard Memorial Hospital and Associate Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics.When he retired, Dr. Schreiner was the Physician-in-Chief of the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children and Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics.
Dr. Schreiner has developed innovative educational programs and tools related to neonatal and pediatric education including simulators to teach procedural skills, more than 25 educational videotapes, and 2 monographs. Dr. Schreiner has directed numerous clinical research studies in neonatology and has authored or co-authored over 150 publications, more than 60 book chapters, and more than 50 abstracts related to neonatal clinical research and neonatal education. Dr. Schreiner has devoted a significant percent of his efforts to the development of better health care delivery systems for children in Indiana and the development of better pediatric educational programs for medical students, residents and practitioners.
