About William A. Engle

Dr. Engle earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Purdue University in 1975. His Doctor of Medicine Degree was granted from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1979. After completing a pediatric residency and neonatology-perinatology fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1984, Dr. Engle joined the faculty of the Indiana University School of Medicine. He was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha in 1989.

Dr. Engle has emphasized service throughout his tenure at Indiana University. He found his passion in the provision of clinical care to critically ill neonates and their families. Dr. Engle also serves critically ill neonates and children as the Co-director of the Neonatal Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Program ,Medical Director of the Riley Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Clinical Director of the Section of Neonatal-Perinatal Pediatrics. For his work, Dr. Engle has received several awards and recognitions from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Engle also serves his students as a role model for detailed, meticulous, sensitive care-giving and as an educator. For his educational service, Dr. Engle was awarded the Teaching Excellence Recognition Award from Indiana University in 1997. Dr. Engle also serves the local, state and national medical communities through his work as Co-Editor of the on-line education neonatology review course of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Engle also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Perinatology and Pediatrics.

In 1998, Dr. Engle was named as the Erik T. Ragan Professor of Pediatrics. Dr. Engle brings an interest in evidence-based practice to the clinic and classroom and has a strong interest in advocating for children and neonatologists at local and national levels.
