About Stuart Sherman

Stuart Sherman, M.D. earned his medical degree the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in 1982 and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Following his gastroenterology training at UCLA School of Medicine, Dr. Sherman completed a third-tier fellowship in therapeutic endoscopy at Indiana University Medical Center.

Dr. Sherman served as Director of Pancreaticobiliary Endoscopy at UCLA School of Medicine from 1990-92. He returned to Indiana University Medical Center in October 1992 and was named Director of the Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) service in July 1995. He is currently a Professor of Medicine and Radiology at Indiana University School of Medicine and Clinical Director of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He is a recognized authority on the application of ERCP to diseases of the pancreas and biliary tree and lectures nationally and internationally. In addition, he is at the forefront of endoscopic research in the pancreaticobiliary tree and is widely published in this area.

He has received numerous awards and research grants and is a member or fellow of several professional organizations, including the Governing Board of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the Gastroenterological Board for the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Sherman has been married to his wife, Leslie, for 16 years. They have two sons, Matthew and Ben.

Dr. Sherman was named the first Glen A. Lehman Professor of Gastroenterology in November 2007 in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a physician and educator.
