About Karen L. Roos

Dr. Roos received a B.S. from the University of Pittsburgh and a M.D. from Drexel University School of Medicine. She did an Internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia Medical Center and a Residency in Neurology at the University of Virginia from 1981-1985. She joined the faculty at Indiana University in 1985 and became the John and Nancy Nelson Professor of Neurology in 2001.

Dr. Roos' area of expertise is in central nervous system infections. She is the author of Meningitis: 100 Maxims in Neurology which was published both in the U.S. by Oxford University Press and in England by Hodder and Stoughton Publishers. Meningitis: 100 Maxims in Neurology has been translated into Japanese and published in Japan. Dr. Roos is the Editor of Central Nervous System Infectious Diseases and Therapy and is also the editor of Principles of Neurologic Infectious Diseases. She is an Associate Editor of Neurological Therapeutics Principles and Practice and the Encyclopedia of the Neurological Sciences. Dr. Roos is Editor-in-Chief of Seminars in Neurology and on the Editorial Boards of Neurology and European Neurology. She has been Chairman of the Annual Meeting Subcommittee of the American Academy of Neurology, and has served on the Executive Council of the American Neurological Association. Dr. Roos was elected as an Active Member in the American Neurological Association in 1998 and is past-President of the Indiana Neurological Society.

Dr. Roos was chosen Outstanding Professor in Clinical Medicine by the Indiana University School of Medicine classes of 1989, 1993 and 1994 and received a Trustee Teaching Award for the academic year 2004-2005 and 2006-2207. She was recognized for her scientific achievements by the International Society for Neurovirology on November 1st, 2007.
