Kenneth L. and Selma G. Earnest Professor of Neurology

About John C. Kincaid

John C. Kincaid grew up in Rockport, Indiana, in the southwest part of the state. He obtained his bachelor's degree from IU Bloomington in 1972, majoring in zoology. He was a member of the Marching 100 and was voted outstanding bandsmen in his junior year. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He completed his medical degree from Indiana University in 1975. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha scholastic honorary society of medicine. He did post-graduate training in Neurology at the IU Medical Center and also completed a fellowship in electromyography at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Dr. Kincaid joined the faculty of the IU School of Medicine in 1980. He was promoted to Professor of Neurology in 1998. He holds joint appointments in the Departments of Physiology, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Dr. Kincaid's primary focus has been the teaching of medical students and postgraduate house staff in Neurology. He has been active in both classroom and bedside teaching in all four years of the medical school curriculum. His research efforts have been directed to modeling of nerve action potentials and understanding the principal aspects of the auditory component of the electromyographic signal.

Dr. Kincaid has served in national roles in both Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology. He has examined for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and the American Board of Electro diagnostic Medicine. He recently completed a term on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Kincaid considers being appointed to the Kenneth L. and Selma G. Earnest Chair of Neurology to be a great privilege for himself and honor for the Department of Neurology.
