About Jay L. Grosfeld
Dr. Grosfeld received his A.B. from NYU in 1957 (cum laude) and his M.D. from NYU in 1961. He completed his Surgery Residency at NYU (Bellevue & University Hospitals) in 1962-66 and his Pediatric Surgery Residency at Ohio State University in 1968-70.
Dr. Grosfeld's academic appointments included: 1965-66 Clinical Instructor in Surgery, NYU; 1968-70 Instructor in Surgery, Ohio State University; 1970-72 Assistant Professor of Surgery & Pediatrics, NYU; 1972-present Professor and Director, Section of Pediatric Surgery, Indiana University Medical Center, Surgeon-in-Chief, James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children; 1981-present Lafayette F. Page Professor; 1985-present Professor, Department of Surgery, Indiana University School of Medicine; Surgeon-in-Chief, James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children. He served in the Military Service as Captain of the Medical Corps, U.S. Army from 1966-68.
Dr. Grosfeld served on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Surgery 1989-97. He was Chairman of the Board 1996-97. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Omega Alpha, American Medical Association, Association for Academic Surgery, New York Cancer Society, American Pediatric Surgical Association (Past President); Fellow, American Academy of Pediatrics (Surgical Section - Past Chairman), Society of University Surgeons, Marion County Medical Association, Pediatric Surgery Biology Club, Fellow, American College of Surgeons, American Trauma Society, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Central Surgical Association (Past Secretary, President-Elect and President), British Association of Pediatric Surgeons, Society of Sigma Xi, Western Surgical Association, International Society of Surgery, American Surgical Association, Collegium Internationale Chirurgiae Digestivae, Society of Surgical Chairmen, Halsted Society (Past President), Kansas City Surgical Society, South African Association of Pediatric Surgeons, the Brazilian Society of Pediatric Surgery, Israeli Surgical Society, Colombian Pediatric Surgical Association and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow). He was President of the World Federation of Associations of Pediatric Surgeons.
His published approximately 422 articles, 95 book chapters, and 6 textbooks. He was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pediatric Surgery and Seminars in Pediatric Surgery.
