About R. George Wright

Professor Wright received his A.B. in 1972 from the University of Virginia and his Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1976. In 1982, he received his J.D. from the IU School of Law - Indianapolis and joined the faculty in 2001.

Prior to joining the IU faculty, George Wright served as a visiting professor of law at Michigan State University. He was on the faculty at the Samford University, Cumberland School of Law for 15 years.

He is the author of six books, including Selling Words (NYU Press 1997), Does the Law Morally Bind the Poor? (NYU Press 1996), and his most recent work, co-authored with Lyrissa Lidsky, Freedom of the Press: A Reference Guide to the United States Constitution (Greenwood Publishing Group, 2004). While in law school, he served as editor-in-chief of the Indiana Law Review and has authored more than one hundred full-length professional publications.

Professor Wright has won several administrative and teaching awards, including the Black Cane Award in 2003.

His research interests include legal philosophy, civil rights, and constitutional law, particularly in the area of freedom of speech.
