Darwin Eatna Smith led one of the most prestigious business organizations in the world. After completing a B.S. from Indiana University with distinction, he married his college sweetheart, Lois Archibold Smith, who was a significant motivating force and vital participant in his remarkable career.
Smith gained experience in the business world, earned the LLB degree, cum laude, from Harvard University, and briefly followed a law career before returning to his primary interest, business, and joined the Kimberly Clark Corporation. Smith rose in rapid succession, from a general attorney to vice president for finance and law, to president, and ultimately became chairman of the board and chief executive officer.
Always more interested in the substance of serving than in personal recognition, he held many corporate directorships in leading American companies, was a member of the President's Cabinet of Marquette University, and was twice accorded professional recognition by his academic honorary, Beta Gamma Sigma.
