- Distinguished Alumni Service Award - 1954
Don Herold has received outstanding distinction as one of the nation's best love humorists. As a writer and artist, he contributed greatly to the people of America; his delightful illustrations have become familiar touches of comedy in mundane affairs. For many years, he was recognized for his unique ability to incorporate constructive thought into mediums well understood and appreciated by many.
As president of the Alumni Association during World War II, he devoted countless hours to keeping IU foremost in the thoughts of alumni everywhere. Harold was a native of Indiana, and though interested and active in the civic affairs of his second home, New York, he remained a true Hoosier in loyalty to his home state.
