Gertrude Force Weathers expanded the cultural concepts of students and associates throughout her teaching career. She taught French, and believed that the study of the language should be infused with an understanding of those who know it as a native tongue. Through various avenues, she initiated strong pursuit of this objective both personally, and on a national scale, through professional organizations.
Recognized for her intercultural contribution, Gertrude was named Officer d'Academie with the decoration of the Palmes by the French government, and some of her most successful students received honors in state and national competitions.
