- Distinguished Alumni Service Award - 1955
Lillian Gay Berry was a pioneer among women faculty members, among the first females to have a regular appointment on the faculty of Indiana University. A gifted and selfless servant of learning, she was loved and honored by all who know her; throughout the years her contribution to scholarships widened in ever increasing circles through her publications, her travels, and her friends. It was said of her, "how much have the children of Indiana been enriched by your teaching....by your friendship, which never lets them go."
She was awarded Indiana University's Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 1955, in recognition of outstanding distinction in scholarship and teaching in the field of classical studies.
