About Barbara Wolf
Barbara Wolf received her B.S. in Speech and Language Pathology in 1966 from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She then earned an M.A. in Public Service Administration from Ball State University at Bitburg in Germany in 1973, and another M.A. in Education from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1974. Finally, she earned her Ph.D. in Education in 1977 from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
Wolf was appointed to Indiana University in 1977 as part of the Honors Division Faculty. By 1983, she was an Associate Professor in the School of Education, and then became a full Professor in the Department of Special Education in 1991. Wolf has also served in the School of Education as the Director of Faculty Development in the Office of the Dean of the Faculties, the Associate Dean of the Faculties and Director of Assessment, the Associate Dean of the Faculties for Teaching and Undergraduate Education and Director of Assessment, as well as the Associate Dean of the Faculties.
Among her many awards, Wolf was nominated to represent Indiana University as the National Professor of the Year at the 1990 and 1991 Council for Advancement and Support of Education, and in 1991, she was selected as the Chancellor's Scholar for Distinguished Teaching at Vanderbilt University. Also in 1991, she was selected by UNESCO Institute for Education as the USA consultant representative on the production, evaluation and assessment of learning in informal environments. From 1990 to 1993, she was selected as a Research Exchange Scholar at the Swedish American Institute, and was awarded a Teaching Fellowship from Indiana University Writing Center in 1994. By 1995, she was named Woman of the Year in Bloomington, Indiana by the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters, Bloomington’s Commission on the Status of Women, the Business and Professional Women's Club, and the Network of Career Women. In 1996, she was selected as the Faculty Keynote Speaker at the Presidential Dinner of Indiana University’s Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Association, as an Indiana University Higher Education Representative to City-University Leadership Program in Kentucky, and as one of eight nationally invited contributors to the 75th Anniversary Edition of Teacher Education in Special Education. Also in 1996, she was selected as one of eight national researchers to delineate rationale for future directions in the area of Teacher Education by the Council for Exceptional Children in Division of Teacher Education at the University of Cincinnati. In 1998, she was named Outstanding Contributor to Teacher Education and Special Education by Journal Year, and was awarded the Teaching Excellence Recognition Award from the School of Education at Indiana University in 1998 and 1999.
Wold died in July of 2020.
