About Maxine M. Dunfee

Maxine M.Dunfee's career spanned a lifetime of teaching, from her early years as a schoolteacher in rural Iowa to her position with Indiana State University's School of Education. Dunfee completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa, and received her master's degree from Indiana State University. She joined the faculty of Indiana State University, Bloomington, where she became a full professor in 1962. She retired in 1984 as Professor Emeritus.

Throughout the years, Dunfee received prestigious awards in recognition of her teaching service. Indiana University presented her with its highest honor, the Frederic Bachman Lieber Distinguished Teaching Award. She also received a Distinguished Service Award from the university's chapter of Pi Lambda Theta, an international honor society and professional association in education.

Students and colleagues remember Dunfee as a caring teacher who strove to empower her students. She identified their individual strengths, as she mentored and encouraged her students. Dunfee will be remembered for her compassion, her dedication, and her many contributions to the field of childhood education.

Dunfee was a member of ACEI for over 50 years. She served as the Chair of the Indiana International/Intercultural Committee and was a member of the Indiana ACEI Executive Board. She participated in numerous Annual Conferences and presentations, sharing her expertise in teaching, planning, and implementing global education, and preparing materials to promote peace education.
