Sidney Foster was an American pianist, and served as a Distinguished Professor of Music from 1976 to 1977 in the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington.
Foster was admitted to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, studying with the legendary Isabelle Vengerova and David Saperton. Foster wrote the liner notes when Sapertons 1950's recordings were once again made available. He had just finished writing the notes when he died on February 7, 1977.
Foster himself was a significant pianist, a highly sought-after teacher and an occasional performer. He spent many years at Indiana University-Bloomington and was responsible for bringing many fine pianists to the fore during his lifetime.
Foster's only recordings include material from his live recitals between 1952 and 1969, and an Indiana University Faculty Recital given on March 5, 1959.
Norman Dello Joio composed his Sonata No. 3 in 1947 for Foster.
