About William C. Perkins

William (Bill) C. Perkins received an B.S. in Civil Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and continued on to earn an M.B.A. and D.B.A. in Quantitative Business Analysis from Indiana University.

After finishing school, Dr. Perkins taught for two years at the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York. He then served on the faculty at Indiana University for 37 years, becoming Professor Emeritus of Information Systems and Decision Sciences in the Kelley School of Business in 2003. He has also taught at the undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and executive program levels, as well as semester or summer-long research courses at the University of Hawaii, the University of Minnesota, the National University of Singapore, Arizona State University, and the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. After retirement, he twice taught in the Doctor of Business Informatics program at Durakhijpundit University, Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Perkins’ has co-authored nine books, including Managing Information Technology published in 2011.

Dr. Perkins has served in several administrative positions at I.U., including Chairperson of the Undergraduate Program of the School of Business from 1974-1979, Chairperson of the Operations and Systems Management Department from 1980-1987, and Director of the Institute for Research on the Management of Information Systems from 1992-1996. He has previously served as President, Vice President, and Treasurer of the Decision Sciences Institute. Dr. Perkins served as Conference Co-Chair of the 1997 Americas Conference on Information Systems, held in Indianapolis and sponsored by the Association for Information Systems, and he served on the Council of the Association for Information Systems in 1997 and 1998. He served as I.U.’s Faculty Athletics Representative from 1994-2003, as well as a member of the Big Ten Joint Group and the Big Ten Faculty Representatives group from 1994-2003. He served as Chair of both of these groups from 2000-2001. He also served as a member of the Big Ten Academic Progress and Eligibility Committee from 1994-1998, and the Big Ten Academics and Eligibility Subcommittee from 1998-2003. He was also Chair of the latter committee from 1999-2003. At the NCAA level, he served on the NCAA Division I Academic Consultants group from 2001-2003. He also served as Chairman from 2001-2003, and as a member on the NCAA Division I Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet, Administrative Committee, and Subcommittee on Initial-Eligibility Issues from 2000-2003.

Dr. Perkins has received eleven major teaching awards from Indiana University, the Senior Class Outstanding Teacher Award, and the Harry C. Sauvain Award for excellence in undergraduate teaching. He received the Distinguished Service Award from I.U.’s Kelley School of Business, in 1999, and I.U.’s Distinguished Service Award in 2003. Dr. Perkins is a Decision Sciences Institute Fellow and has received the Institute’s Distinguished Service Award. In 1994, he received the Twenty-Five Year Distinguished Service Award of the Midwest Decision Sciences Institute, the first and only such award given by the organization, and he was named an inaugural Fellow of the Midwest Decision Sciences Institute in 2005.
