Alan received a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Illinois in 1977 and an MBA from Northern Illinois University in 1989. Prior to entering the doctoral program at IU in 1995, Alan held various positions with the Internal Revenue Service in Chicago, Illinois. He received his Ph.D. in strategic management from Indiana University, and spent five years as an assistant professor at California State University before joining the Walton College as Director of MBA Programs in 2003.
Alan has taught a variety of management courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Alan's primary research interests are focused on corporate governance, top management teams and the influence of the political system on business operations. His research has appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, the Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of Management and the Journal of International Management as well as other peer-reviewed journals.
