Elizabeth Mullins earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from Indiana University in 1975.

Mullins is named for the The Lindesmith-Mullins Fellowship which recognizes excellence in research, and is the most prestigious prize in the Department of Sociology at Indiana University Bloomington.
